Kfoury Uses Web Technology to Manage Bid Process
Traditionally, general contractors distribute drawings received from an architect to a group of subcontractors and the subcontractors provide a bid price back to the general contractor. This process is paper-intensive, time-consuming, and costly. Kfoury’s Sub Center, using Buildpoint software, relieves Kfoury of the burden and expense of broadcast faxes, plan reproduction, and document distribution. The information is instead available on a Kfoury/Buildpoint web site. Subcontractors can view and download project documents, and the system will even allow for electronic bid submission. Kfoury is currently implementing additional systems which will allow for a seamless integration with its current bid management
NickTimreck, Kfoury’s president, says, “We are already seeing the benefits of Buildpoint. We can work smarter, faster and cheaper without compromising quality or increasing overhead. Bid documents are sent and received faster, so we have more time to focus on project details.”
The software package also gives Kfoury a reliable system for tracking subcontractors - subcontractor contact data, pre-qualification and performance data. In some cases, project teams ask the same subcontractors for the same pre-qualification data for different projects. Now, Kfoury is finding that the software promotes data sharing and collaboration between the company’s construction, finance and operations departments. All internal subcontractor and project databases have been consolidated, eliminating redundant data entry and enabling employees to access data faster.
