Best of Reston 2006 Honorees Unveiled by Reston Interfaith and Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce
This year’s Honorees were recognized during a special ceremony at the Chamber Luncheon on Thursday, January 12 at the Hyatt Regency Reston, and will be honored at the Best of Reston Gala on Thursday, April 20. The residents and businesses of our community have dramatically improved from the outstanding contributions of this year’s distinguished class of honorees.
“It is only through the amazing support of our community partners that Reston Interfaith is able to reach out to hundreds of men, women and children daily with a comprehensive continuum of programs and services,” Kerrie Wilson, CEO of Reston Interfaith commented. “Each and every day we see the spirit of our community at work through our volunteers and partners as they support our mission. The Best of Reston gives us the unique opportunity to collaborate with the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce to join in the recognition of exemplary service to Reston. We are excited about this year’s honorees and are so thankful for their tremendous contributions to our community. Reston Interfaith is privileged to be a part of this event,” Wilson continued.
The 2006 Best of Reston Awards will be presented to:
John and Susan Adney
John and Susan Adney are at the heart of the musical arts community in Reston. In life, John is a partner in the law firm of Davis & Harman, LLP while Susan is a homemaker and an accomplished musician. However, joy for this pair truly lies in spreading their love of music to others. Both have been members of the Reston Chorale for over 20 years, giving of their voices, their time, their financial donations and their talents. They have commissioned original musical pieces for their church, the Chorale and an original work for Reston’s Martin Luther King Day Celebration named “A Journey to Freedom, Honor and Glory”. John and Susan Adney truly "Make beautiful music for Reston.”
Kfoury Construction
While Kfoury Construction spends much of its time physically building the greater Reston landscape, they also consistently go out of their way to improve the well being of our community and our residents. Their tradition of support extends from Reston Interfaith to the Greater Reston Arts Center to the Greater Reston Chamber and its Incubator Program to regional efforts like the International Children’s Festival, Volunteer Fairfax’s Celebration of Giving and Sharing, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the Studio Theater. We depend on Kfoury Construction to help build a stronger Reston from the ground up, and they deliver.
The Giving Circle of HOPE
The Giving Circle of HOPE was formed in 2004 by a group of women who have known each other for almost a decade through their involvement with school and community activities. The all-volunteer driven social investment group was born through a desire by each member to make a greater impact in the community through giving. In their first year of existence they awarded 5 grants to local nonprofits totaling $24,000. In 2005, they surged ahead awarding 12 grants totaling more than $54,000 to recipients that include Herndon Reston FISH, Kids R First, Gabriel Homes, Brain Injury Services, and the Embry Rucker Shelter. The list goes on and so does the group’s unique commitment to not just give money to organizations, but to truly get involved in their missions through volunteering. He impacts their behavior, as well as their lives and gives selflessly by teaching both parents and their children skills that will improve their way of life. The commitment rarely stops for Brent, who has cooked for, entertained, and even clothed children in the community, often at his own expense, with the simple mission of enriching their lives. 100%, 24 hours a day, no matter what, Brent Park"is a child’s best friend.”
